Power, utilizing the alternate red tire, turned a lap of 1 minute, 46.0021 seconds in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet on the 14-turn, 4.014-mile circuit.

Power, who won the NTT P1 Award at Road America en route to victory in 2016, denied Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey a little bit of glory for second straight weekend.

Harvey, who started on the front row at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway a week ago, looked set to top an NTT INDYCAR SERIES session for the first time in his career with lap of 1:46.1606 before Power took the top spot.

Josef Newgarden (1:46.1914) was third in the No. 1 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet, opting to set a time on alternate reds early in the session, while Chip Ganassi Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist (1:46.2319) and Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay (1:46.2519) rounded out the top five.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader Scott Dixon (1:46.5256) was 15th in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

By virtue of his fast time, Power will choose his group for NTT P1 Award Qualifying (2:15 p.m. ET on NBCSN and racecontrol.indycar.com). There will only be one round of qualifying this weekend. Each group will run a 12-minute session, and the fastest in each group will earn a bonus NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship point, and the overall fastest lap will earn the NTT P1 Award.
