Dale Coyne Racing
Get to Know the Team
Entering its 42nd season of competition, Dale Coyne Racing has a long and storied history in INDYCAR SERIES racing. Founded in 1984 as an owner/driver team, Dale Coyne ran seven seasons in CART before turning his focus to mentoring up-and-coming drivers in 1990.
From Dean Hall in 1990 to Alex Palou in 2020 and beyond, Coyne’s ability to coach and develop talent has paid dividends for drivers competing with his seasoned team. The team celebrated its first win in July 2009 with Justin Wilson at Watkins Glen. Wilson added a second win at Texas Motor Speedway in 2012, and Mike Conway earned a third victory in the first race of the 2013 Belle Isle doubleheader. Rookie Carlos Huertas made a surprise run to the checkered flag in the first Houston race of 2014, notching the team’s fourth career triumph, while Sebastien Bourdais marked his return to the team by winning the 2017 season opener at St. Petersburg.
In 2026, Dale Coyne Racing will enter a technical partnership with Andretti Global, fielding the No. 18 entry for Dennis Hauger and the No. 19 entry for Romain Grosjean. Grosjean returns to the team after his first stint in 2021, when he earned three podiums and one pole in his rookie season. Dale Coyne Racing is based in Plainfield, Illinois, about 40 miles southwest of downtown Chicago.
