Arrow McLaren endured a disappointing qualifying session Saturday for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, but the team’s three drivers appear to be in good shape for the race today, if the morning warmup session is any indication.

Pato O’Ward led three Arrow McLaren drivers in the top six of the final practice, turning a top lap of 1 minute, 1.5944 seconds in the team’s No. 5 Chevrolet. Christian Lundgaard was third at 1:01.7964 in the No. 7 Chevrolet, while Nolan Siegel ended up sixth at 1:02.0818 in the No. 6 Chevrolet.

That was a welcome contrast from Saturday, when none of the team’s three drivers made the Firestone Fast Six during NTT P1 Award qualifying. O’Ward qualified eighth, Lundgaard 12th and Siegel 22nd in the 25-car field.

"It's a bit cold right now," O'Ward said. "There was quite a bit of front (tire) graining because of the cold temperatures. I wouldn't expect to see it as bad in the race. It's going to heat up. The car balance will shift a bit. I think we're sporty."

Up next is the 100-lap race at noon ET, live on FOX, FOX One, FOX Deportes, the FOX Sports app and INDYCAR Radio, powered by OnlyBulls.

In between 2024 St. Petersburg winner O’Ward and Lundgaard in this session was reigning St. Pete winner and four-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou, second at 1:01.5962 in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

Six-time series champion Scott Dixon helped Chip Ganassi Racing put two cars in the top four, as he was fourth at 1:01.8307 in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Florida native and resident Kyle Kirkwood rounded out the top five at 1:02.0062 in the No. 27 JM Bullion/Gold.com Honda fielded by Andretti Global.

Mick Schumacher

NTT P1 Award winner Scott McLaughlin was slowest in the session at 1:03.5492 in the No. 3 DEX Team Penske Chevrolet. Formula One veteran Mick Schumacher (photo, above), son of legendary seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, was the quickest rookie in the 30-minute session, 12th at 1:02.5027 in the No. 47 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda.
