Note: This continues a series of 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES team previews on INDYCAR.com. The season starts Sunday, March 2 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding (noon ET, FOX, INDYCAR Radio Network).

Starting Lineup: Robert Shwartzman (No. 83 PREMA Racing Chevrolet), Callum Ilott (No. 90 PREMA Racing Chevrolet).

What to Know: There is so much to the PREMA story that it will take months to lay it all out. Angelo Rosin debuted the team in 1983, and it has amassed 80 season championships – 40 drivers titles, 40 team titles -- participating in nearly three dozen series over the years. The NTT INDYCAR SERIES will be one of about a dozen categories the organization will compete in this year. PREMA’s emphasis over the years has been on driver development, and the list of those who have driven for the team is a who’s who of the sport, including Jacques Villeneuve, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri and about half of the current Formula One field, plus INDYCAR SERIES veterans Ryan Briscoe, Charlie Kimball, Felix Rosenqvist, Marcus Armstrong, Ilott and Shwartzman, among many others. New Mercedes F1 driver Kimi Antonelli, an 18-year-old phenom, competed with PREMA last year in F2, winning two races. Shwartzman, a 25-year-old Israeli, won an F3 title with the team, and Ilott finished fourth (with six wins) with it in that series in 2017. Juan Pablo Montoya’s son, Sebastian, has spent three seasons with PREMA and will compete in F2 with it this year. PREMA’s cars fly the colors of the Italian flag: Red, white and green, and the team boasts a strong family atmosphere. Its Chevrolet-powered INDYCAR program led by INDYCAR SERIES veteran Piers Phillips is based in a sparkling new 100,000-square-foot facility in Fishers, Indiana. Briscoe, a seven-time INDYCAR race winner with Team Penske, serves as its sporting advisor.

New for ’25: Where to begin as everything about the team’s participation in this series will be new except for Ilott and the crew members who have comparable experience. The team is only a few weeks removed from its first on-track test, and the foray into the early part of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season, including the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, figures to be an exciting and interesting watch. Ilott has finished 12th and 11th in the past two “500s.”

Keep an Eye on This: Romain Grosjean, the former F1 driver who has 64 NTT INDYCAR SERIES starts over the past four years, has been secured as PREMA’s reserve driver. What that means exactly isn’t clear, but he had some of his best drives with smaller teams, so his counsel should be invaluable.

Little-Known Fact: PREMA’s addition increases the NTT INDYCAR SERIES grid to 11 full-time teams in 2025, the most since 2018. PREMA is the fourth team since 2020 to join the series full time, joining Meyer Shank Racing in 2020, and McLaren Racing and Juncos Hollinger Racing in 2021.
