The 61st Indianapolis 500 was one for the record books, and will be known for two names ... Foyt ... and Guthrie.

As INDYCAR celebrates Women's History Month in March, it is our great pleasure to revisit some of the great moments of the sport. This week's Classic Rewind takes us back to May of 1977 and the 61st running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race.

Fans will remember that "500" as the one where A.J. Foyt became the first four-time winner of the race taking the lead when Gordon Johncock's car broke down while leading on a hot May day. It will also be remembered as the year that Janet Guthrie broke the gender barrier and became the first female starter of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. Guthrie would drive in three Indianapolis 500 races in her career, with her best finish of ninth in 1978.
