FORT WORTH, Texas -- “Lunch is on us,” Mario Andretti said after Weinberger’s Deli owner Dan Weinberger introduced the trio of sandwiches to honor the three generations of Andrettis during a late-morning event at Texas Motor Speedway.
"The Andretti Green, White and Checkered " sandwiches celebrate the family's racing lineage and pays tribute to their Italian heritage.
Mario’s sandwich represents his hometown of Montona, Italy, and includes strips of capicola, mortadella, genoa salami, black olives, green olives, olive oil, crushed garlic in oil salt, red pepper flakes, pepper, oregano, mozzarella, pepperoncini, artichoke, banana peppers, button mushrooms, romaine lettuce, red onions and chopped sun-dried tomatoes on a toasted hoagie bun.
Michael’s sandwich includes provolone, mortadella, soppressata, capicola, banana peppers, roasted red peppers, chopped spring mix, chopped red onions, olive oil, oregano and garlic powder on a toasted hoagie bun.
Marco’s is a bit more "Americanized" Italian sub sandwich that includes ham, pepperoni, mortadella, provolone, pepperoncini, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, red wine vinegar, olive oil and Italian seasoning on a toasted hoagie bun.
Mouths full, all three nodded their approval. The sandwiches are available at Weinberger’s Deli locations in the Metroplex.

De Silvestro will incur 10-grid spot penalty
The Chevrolet-powered No. 78 Nuclear Entergy Areva car driven by Simona De Silvestro for KV Racing Technology has been assessed a 10-grid spot penalty for unapproved engine following the event at Belle Isle.
Rule 15.5.7.2 regarding in-race failure was violated: The engine manufacturer must inform its INDYCAR engine support engineer of the engine failure within five hours of the end of the race.
Chevrolet engineers checked the engine after De Silvestro made hard contact with the Turn 8 wall early in Race 2 of the Dual in Detroit, but upon further review found an issue that required the engine to be changed.
