The inaugural U.S. 500 at Michigan International Speedway was billed as a new era in motorsports

As INDYCAR celebrates Black History Month in February, we are honored to revisit some of the great moments of the sport. In 1995, NFL Hall Of Famer and Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton, he himself a motorsports enthusiast and sports car driver, partnered with Chicagoland's Dale Coyne Racing to form Payton-Coyne Racing. They scored their best finish of their partnership in 1996 during the inaugural U.S. 500 at Michigan International Speedway with Roberto Moreno. For this week's Classic Rewind, we return to the Irish Hills of Michigan, where 25 years ago this May, history is made in more ways than one.
