Will Power has been etching his name into the annals of Indy car history over the last few weeks.

At Pocono, Power earned the 53rd pole position of his career, tying A.J. Foyt for second on the all-time list. And while he finished second at Pocono, he won Saturday night’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park to tie Bobby Unser for seventh on INDYCAR’s all-time win list with 35 wins.

The win impressed the racing legend who watched Power’s win from his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

“Will’s fast and one of those drivers who finds a way to win races, he showed that, no question,” Unser said in a statement released on Sunday. “Will’s a total racer and for someone like that to share 35 Indy car wins with me is special. Look, Will won Indianapolis this year, he won the road course at Indy and now on a short oval, I like that – he has confidence and knows he can win anyplace and anytime – like Bobby Unser did!”

Like Unser did, Power has won races driving the No. 12 car for the legendary Roger Penske.

Both can count 500-mile wins at Indianapolis and Pocono among the races they’ve won as well as the road course at Watkins Glen and short oval at Milwaukee.

All that Power has left to do to match Uncle Bobby – Win at Pikes Peak.
