Santino Ferrucci

Dale Coyne Racing announced today that Santino Ferrucci, who made his Verizon IndyCar Series debut in June at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix doubleheader, will return to the team as a third entry in the final two races of the 2018 season.

Ferrucci will drive the No. 39 Cly-Del Manufacturing Honda in the Grand Prix of Portland on Sept. 2 and the INDYCAR Grand Prix of Sonoma on Sept. 16. The 20-year-old American will team with Sebastien Bourdais and Pietro Fittipaldi in the two races.

In the races at Detroit’s Raceway at Belle Isle Park temporary street course, Ferrucci finished 22nd and 20th. He’ll have the opportunity to test on Portland International Raceway’s permanent road course in the series-wide open test on Aug. 30, a day before the Grand Prix of Portland race weekend officially begins.

“We were very impressed with Santino at Detroit this year, and not just by his performance behind the wheel, but also by his professionalism and maturity outside of the race car,” team owner Dale Coyne said. “We’ve had lengthy discussions with Santino in the past few months and we’re excited to have him back for the final two rounds of the season.

“We look forward to seeing what he will do with this opportunity as he gets back behind the wheel of an Indy car. We’re also happy to welcome Cly-Del to our ever-growing family of sponsors.”

Ferrucci also drove in FIA Formula 2 and was a development driver for the Haas Formula One team this season until he was suspended for unsportsmanlike actions during an F2 race at the British Grand Prix. The native of Woodbury, Connecticut, is eager for the opportunity to race again as well as bringing along sponsor Cly-Del, a leader in progressive stamping and deep drawn metal components.

“I am extremely grateful to Dale and everyone at Dale Coyne Racing for giving me this opportunity to get back behind the wheel of an Indy car in Portland and Sonoma,” Ferrucci said. “I’m also excited to be bringing my long-time sponsor Cly-Del on board and introducing them to the world of Indy car racing.

“I truly enjoyed my time with Dale Coyne Racing in Detroit earlier this season and I couldn’t be more excited to be back with them for a couple more races, as I look to the future and enter the next chapter of my career.”
