Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – James Hinchcliffe made national headlines for his comments during Sunday’s initial telecast of the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by America’s First.

It was during a red-flag rain delay when Hinchcliffe admitted to NBCSN’s Kevin Lee that, for the first time in his career, he was forced to urinate in his firesuit because drivers were told to remain in their cars for an earlier red flag. The interview went viral and made ESPN SportsCenter.

Hinchcliffe, driving the No. 5 Arrow Electronics SPM Honda, finished third in today’s completion of the race, behind friend and former teammate Ryan Hunter-Reay, driver of the No. 28 DHL Honda for Andretti Autosport. So naturally in the post-race news conference, the first topic to come up was, well, Hinchcliffe’s wet in-car adventure from the day before.

From the transcript – and what can be republished safely – is the banter between the Verizon IndyCar Series drivers:

Hinchcliffe: Ryan, how nervous were you with the No. 5 car breathing down your neck (at the end of the race)?

Hunter-Reay: It was terrible. I was like, “Why is he going so fast?” We're saving fuel.

Hinchcliffe: Did you pee yourself?

Hunter-Reay: I didn't. Did you?

Hinchcliffe: Not today. I was covered in a different yellow liquid (champagne), but that was after the race.

Hunter-Reay: We thought you were popular on “Dancing with the Stars.” You've taken a whole other level now.

Hinchcliffe: I joked … this morning that it was the (pee) heard ‘round the world because it was literally picked up by more (media outlets).

Hunter-Reay: No doubt, man. Good on you, brother.

Hinchcliffe: My phone was blowing up. I did not expect that at all.

Hunter-Reay: You should start a movement, something where people (pee) their pants on road trips and take pictures. … What would you hashtag it?

Hinchcliffe: #GrandPee. Instead of #GrandPrix, #GrandPee.

Hunter-Reay: We’ll get back to you.
