MADISON, Illinois – Reality TV star Meghan King Edmonds’ life is full of unique experiences, including having big parts of it filmed and publicized on Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”

Edmonds added to that list of experiences Saturday evening at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park. Admitting she didn’t know much about Verizon IndyCar Series racing, Edmonds started her education with a high-speed thrill ride in the INDYCAR two-seater at the track just outside St. Louis, where she grew up.

“What an intro, right? Holy cow!” she said after the ride with Gabby Chaves. “I kind of felt like I was floating for a minute. At different moments, I felt like I was floating, going to throw up or my skin was falling off.”

Edmonds is the wife of FOX Sports broadcaster Jim Edmonds, a retired outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He joined her at Gateway for the race.

They were just two of the celebrities at the track for the race. St. Louisans love sports and plenty of the city’s sports celebs were on hand for the first Verizon IndyCar Series race at Gateway since 2003.

Isaac Bruce and Andy McCollum, members of the St. Louis Rams when they won Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000, took two-seat Indy car rides, too. as did St. Louis Blues hockey players Alex Pietrangelo, Colton Parayko and Vladimir Tarasenko.

Butch Patrick, who played Eddie Munster on the 1960s hit TV series “The Munsters,” was on hand and Olympic track and field champion Jackie Joyner-Kersee, a native of East St. Louis, Illinois, considered one of the greatest athletes of all time, served as grand marshal.

Bruce, who was used to menacing defensive backs in his NFL career as a wide receiver, wasn’t so sure about taking the two-seater ride. When he got out, he was glad it was over.

“This is new for me. I’m going in a car that is designed to go 200 mph and I’m not driving it? Even when I’m in an Uber, I’m kind of watching the road,” he said.

“It was exhilarating. It was fast. I just had to relax and it was fun. The straightaways were a little bit better than the curves.”

McCollum enjoyed his first ride so much, he took a second.

“I love that speed,” he said. “It makes me want to go out and buy a fast car.”

Meghan Edmonds was a guest of Rising Star Racing. She enjoyed being among the INDYCAR community.

“The energy is so positive and it’s just like beaming with this anticipation,” she said. “I love energy. I’m a big energy person. I love to be around an excited crowd and feel that great vibe.”
