USF2000 Preview - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

Entry list || Race weekend schedule

Nico Jamin enters the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda doubleheader finale this weekend with a comfortable lead over Jake Eidson and the understanding not to be overconfident.

“We'll have to stay focused more than ever and make sure we don't make any mistakes,” said Jamin, who has recorded eight wins among 13 top-five finishes in the 14 races in the No. 2 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing entry.

Rounds 15 and 16 are Sept. 12 and 13 on the 2.238-mile, 11-turn Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca road course. The champion receives a scholarship toward advancing to the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires.

Champions also will be crowned after the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires and Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires doubleheaders.

Real-time Timing & Scoring and track audio for all Mazda Road to Indy sessions, with streaming video added for the races, will be available on Racecontrol.indycar.com.

Jamin, 19, of France, travels to Monterey, Calif., off a sweep of the tripleheader races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course last month – a first since the formation of the Mazda Road to Indy ladder in 2010.

“Of course, I'd love to win races for the last rounds of the season but my main goal is to secure the 2015 Cooper Tires USF2000 title,” he said. “I can't wait to drive for the first time on this amazing California track. I've been testing on the simulator during the summer break and I worked a lot on my mental and physical condition to make sure I'll get there stronger than ever.”

Eidson, driving for Pabst Racing Services, has earned four victories and also has finished in the top five in 13 of the 14 races. Eidson, 20, a native of Littleton, Colo., is a former Team USA Scholarship recipient.

“It’s been a pretty successful season, but most race car drivers aren’t happy unless we’re winning," he said. "There are races I look back at and I’m pleased with our performance, but of course there are races that I wish I could change. I have a lot of good memories but it’s not over. Hopefully we can come away with a good finish at the last event.

“This is my second year in USF2000 and it’s been a successful one, so I’m ready to move up. The scholarship would be a career-maker but if we don’t get it, we’ll keep fighting.”
