At the age of 8, Parker Thompson got behind the wheel of his first kart and he hasn't stopped getting behind the wheel since. Starting at a later date than most of his competition, Parker has nonetheless moved up through the karting ranks swiftly. He's gone from being a weekend warrior rolling a kart and tool box in the back of a family half-ton, to a podium fixture in many of North America's top karting championships.
Parker Thompson was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, where the karting season lasts only six months. That meant he'd have to travel in order to develop his craft, so it was down South he went when he accepted an invitation to race under the Tony Kart West banner based out of California. Success came quickly, and Thompson soon became very well known in North American karting. Countless podiums, many wins, and 3 IKF Championships followed, along with a famed Duffy. Moving up to Junior Rotax early in order to gain the most experience possible and develop as a driver, Thompson then stunned the industry by taking the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas Junior Rotax title and earning a spot on Team Canada for the Rotax Grand Finals in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. Parker went on to claim the Western Canadian Karting Championship in Junior Rotax that same season, and has since defended his Western crown, meaning he will once again join Team Canada at the Rotax Grand Finals this year, to be held in Portimao, Portugal, his second-consecutive trip to the World Rotax Finals.
As a driver, Parker Thompson has been developed by some of the world's most prominent names in auto racing, such as Buddy Rice, former Indy 500 winner, and Mike Speed, renowned tuner and father of former American Formula One driver and current NASCAR driver Scott Speed. Thompson has also been developed by Chris Freckleton, a retired karting phenomenon who has been with Thompson through his teen stages, and Joey Guyon, who started out with Thompson by supporting him.
With racing taking him across the Atlantic, and currently competing in Europe with Italy's Energy Corse racing team, Parker's success continues to build with the help of his partners: Energy Corse, Panigada European Transport, GFR Racing Engines, Bell Racing Helmets, CanadianKartingNews.com, Tillett Racing Seats, and Sylvan Lake RV.
