Just a reminder that time is running out to grab a piece of Indianapolis 500 history involving Fernando Alonso and help out the family of Justin Wilson in the process.

Alonso created worldwide headlines this year when the two-time Formula One champion bypassed the Grand Prix of Monaco to compete in the 101st Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.

Until 1 p.m. ET Dec. 24, race fans can bid on rare signed prints commemorating that historic event that will benefit the Wilson Children's Fund. The charitable initiative is driven by Marshall Pruett, who covers the sport for RACER magazine, and Paul Zimmermann, owner of The Motorsport Collector racing memorabilia company.

Available in the online auction are a pair of photo prints (shown below) depicting Alonso at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May. One photo is a close-up of Alonso sitting in the cockpit of his No. 29 McLaren Andretti Honda. The other photo shows Alonso's car crossing the famous yard of bricks with the IMS Pagoda in the background. Each photo is personally signed by Alonso; Gil de Ferran, the 2003 Indy 500 winner who mentored Alonso throughout his INDYCAR journey; Michael Andretti, CEO of the Andretti Autosport team that prepared Alonso’s car for the race and called his race strategy; and Zak Brown, executive director of McLaren Technology Group who coordinated the agreement for Alonso to drive at Indy and miss the F1 race at Monaco.

Ten individually signed prints of each photo are available for email bidding, which began Monday and ends on Christmas Eve. The 10 highest bids for each print will receive one. The minimum bid for each print is $500 and increases in $100 increments. All proceeds from the auction benefit the Wilson Children’s Fund that helps secure the future for the two daughters of Justin Wilson, who died in 2015 from injuries sustained in a crash at Pocono Raceway.

Bids will only be accepted via email to Zimmermann (Paul@MotorsportsCollector.com) and must specify which print the bid is for. Bidders may also contact Zimmermann to check whether their bid is among the top 10. Once winning bids are determined, payment will be made through the Wilson Children’s Fund’s PayPal account.
