The driver: Turned 36 on July 31. … Completed third successive season with Illinois-based team. He also drove for Dale Coyne Racing in 2009 Verizon IndyCar Series season, giving the team owner his first Indy car victory (Watkins Glen). … From Sheffield, England, he resides in Longmont, Colo., with his wife and two daughters.

Season finish: Placed 15th in Verizon IndyCar Series standings, which is nine positions lower than 2013 and tied his 2012 finish. Was seven points behind 14th-place Charlie Kimball.

The gist: Wilson has made 168 Indy car starts since 2004 in Champ Car, and has recorded 93 top-10 finishes that includes seven victories. … His last win was in June 2012 at Texas Motor Speedway. … He suffered a fractured pelvis in the 2013 season finale at Auto Club Speedway but made a full recovery in the offseason. … Teammate his season to Verizon IndyCar Series rookie Carlos Huertas of Colombia in the No. 18 car.

Season stats: Wilson recorded top-10 finishes in two of the initial three races of the season, gaining 18 total positions relative to his qualifying. … Posted season-best finish of fourth at Belle Isle1, moving up 15 spots from his position on the grid. … Recorded three top-10 finishes (high of ninth at Sonoma Raceway) in the second half of the season. He said it: “We had some highlights this year, but it's also been a tough year. We finished sixth in the championship last year and this year we were 15th. We'll just take away from that what we can, learn from it and who knows what this offseason is going to bring. (The competition) gets stronger and stronger every year we race."
